Facebook Growth
A local business Facebook Page playbook
What actually works for a small local business on Facebook?
5 min read
Facebook remains a strong channel for local discovery — often stronger than Instagram for restaurants, salons, gyms, and trade services. The playbook is different from a brand or creator Page.
Complete the local metadata
Address, service area, opening hours (including holiday overrides), parking notes, and category. Facebook's local search uses this metadata directly; missing fields drop the Page out of results.
Post the boring stuff
Weekly hours changes, seasonal menu items, staff updates, and local event mentions consistently outperform stylized brand content on local Pages. Regulars follow the Page for practical information, not aesthetics.
Encourage check-ins, not just likes
A check-in shows on the visitor's own feed and is one of the strongest local social signals. A small in-store sign asking customers to check in produces more Page reach than most paid post boosts of the same budget.
Reply to every review within a week
Both positive and negative. Response rate is a factor Facebook shows publicly on the Page, and a visible pattern of thoughtful replies makes the difference on the first-time visitor.
