Spotify release-day checklist
What should I do on the day my song releases on Spotify?
5 min read
Release day sets the ceiling for how far algorithmic Spotify will push a track. A short, disciplined checklist beats an ambitious campaign that misses the first 24 hours.
Before the release
- Pre-save link live at least 3 weeks in advance
- Spotify for Artists pitched at least 7 days ahead
- Canvas (looping visual) uploaded
- Artist bio and profile image current
- One promo asset ready for each social platform
Release day, hour by hour
- Post the Spotify link on Stories with a strong CTA to save
- Reply personally to the first wave of listeners with a thank-you
- Add the track to your own public playlists (not just Liked Songs)
- Share the Canvas as a Reel with the pre-save-to-save flow
First 72 hours
- Follow up with everyone who pre-saved with a thank-you DM
- Ask three friends with active Spotify accounts to add the track to a public playlist
- Check the Spotify for Artists dashboard daily and flag any Discover Weekly appearances
What not to do
Avoid buying plays from unreliable sources — Spotify strips inauthentic streams and can suppress the track in algorithmic playlists. Real, engaged listeners are the only ones that count. See the Spotify promotion service for what a legitimate boost looks like.
