Repurposing one video into five formats

How do I get more mileage out of a single piece of video content?

    5 min read

One well-produced 60-second video can supply a week of content across platforms — if the repurposing is done deliberately, not by cross-posting.

    Start with a long-form take

Shoot the full explanation as a 5–8 minute talking-head or demo video. Everything else derives from this. Trying to work backwards from a Reel to a long-form video almost never works; the reverse is straightforward.

Pull three short clips with different hooks

The same content can produce three different short-form videos by changing only the first two seconds. Hook A opens with the payoff; Hook B opens with the mistake; Hook C opens with a question. Testing all three reveals which the audience responds to.

Turn key points into a carousel or thread

Instagram carousels and text threads reach a different audience than video. Extracting three to five key points as slides or as a numbered thread doubles a video's reach without producing anything new.

Convert transcript into a written post

The long-form transcript, lightly edited, becomes a newsletter or blog entry that ranks in search and lives longer than any social post. This is the format most creators skip and later wish they hadn't.

See the content calendar guide for how to slot repurposed content into a weekly rhythm.
